It was only the beginning.
It was the beginning of the end.
There was a little girl with an old man’s handbag.
A woman with a baby.
Then it all came crashing down.
Two white men – two white men, black men – got out of the carriage and started shooting.
There were no passengers, only the gunman, who was wearing black, with a pistol and a Kalashnikov.
A little girl was taken out of her seat.
A little boy was taken into the car and shot dead.
The gunman then drove the carriage towards the main street of the city.
The driver was killed, and two people were seriously wounded.
The police have said they believe that the attack was motivated by a personal feud.
It has also emerged that the gunman has been identified as a former police officer, and a member of the Russian armed forces.
The attack took place in front of a church, in front, in the middle of the night, just as the church services were about to start.
A young woman was shot in the stomach, and the body of a child was found nearby.
A child’s body was found inside a shopping cart.
The dead body of the little girl, whose name has not been released, was discovered at around 1:00am.
The baby boy’s body, which had been in the car, was found at around 2:00pm.
The car’s driver, a young man who had just been discharged from the police, was shot dead at around 3:00.
The gunman and the two attackers were then arrested.
But the investigation into the motive behind the attack is ongoing.
What has happened?
The gunman, an ex-police officer, has been named as Dmitry Kovtsov, who has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, and assault in the second degree, according to local media reports.
Kovtsov is a veteran of the Soviet Union’s elite Special Forces and a man known for his close ties with President Vladimir Putin.
He is also believed to have had a background in anti-government and anti-refugee activities, and was arrested last year.
“Kovtsaev was the man who organised the attack in the church and was the one who had a personal vendetta against the church,” Russian Investigative Committee spokesman Aleksandr Yakovenko told reporters on Monday.
Kovtzov has been accused of killing a number of people in Moscow and Chechnya during the early 1990s.
His brother, a former KGB officer, is also accused of helping him plan the shooting.
The church in which the shooting took place was set up by a Russian Orthodox Christian group, known as the Konsult.
Its members have been known to carry out attacks, including one in 1994 that killed at least 12 people, including children, in a Moscow suburb.
What does this mean for Russia?
The attack was an attack on religious freedom, as it was on freedom of speech and freedom of expression, the Russian Orthodox Church said in a statement.
“The perpetrator’s actions demonstrate the criminal mentality of his group and the need to eliminate religious differences,” the statement said.
“In a society where religious diversity is a source of freedom of thought, religion and religious freedom are inseparable, there can be no room for hatred and violence against the faithful.”
What can be done?
The Russian government has said it is reviewing its law on freedom to worship and religion, which it passed in 2006.
“We are reviewing this law in the light of the fact that there are serious risks to religious freedoms and a growing concern about extremism, anti-Semitism and the rise of violent extremism,” Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Monday, according on the Interfax news agency.
“Russia will continue to defend the rights of believers and religious believers.”
What is the status of the investigation?
The investigation into what happened in St Petersburg on Monday is being conducted by the Moscow branch of the Investigative Committee.
The Russian Investigative Committees said on Sunday that they were launching an investigation into whether the gunman’s actions were religiously motivated.
“This is not a criminal matter,” an official told Interfax.
“We are talking about whether there was a personal dispute, and whether the attack could have been organised as a revenge attack,” the official added.
A statement by the Investigative Commision said it had asked local police officers to take over the investigation.
“The Investigative Committee is taking up the matter with local police,” it said.
How did the attack happen?
On Saturday evening, a small group of men, apparently carrying Kalashnons, entered the church, drove up to the back of the church in front and opened fire.
Witnesses reported seeing at least five men in the carriage firing and firing at the back door of the building, where about 100 people were gathered for services.
The attackers then fled.
