The Pittsburgh Steelers star who is expecting his first child is getting ready to start his new life.
The baby will be a boy, Ben Roethlisberger told reporters Thursday in a news conference.
He said the birth is not scheduled for a while and it is not yet clear when it will happen.
The first child was born in November and Roethlesberger’s wife, Kristin, has been a surrogate mother for the past four years.
The first-time mom is a fan favorite in Pittsburgh, where he played three seasons in the NFL and won three Super Bowls.
He was a finalist for the Heisman Trophy last season and was a two-time All-Pro for the Steelers.
Roethlisberg, 38, is expected to take the first steps in his new world when he visits the Steelers’ facility for a mandatory team workout Thursday in Pittsburgh.
It is the first time he will travel to Pittsburgh since the birth of his son in December.
The Steelers have already said the team would welcome Roethlsberger back to Pittsburgh, which has an active roster of more than 80 players, to spend more time together after the birth.
